Oscar Diaz "Ink Calendar."

A beautiful prototype. I would love one of these.


"Ink Calendar" make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.

The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are "printed" daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.

The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the whether on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.

The scale for measuring the “color temperature” that I have used is a standard called ‘D65’ and corresponds roughly to a midday sun in Western / Northern Europe.

The "Ink Calendar" was developed for “Gradual “, an exhibition featuring works, which were evolving during the exhibition time at the London Design Festival 2007.

Only a prototype. Sigh.




Digital clock: only figures, no case, only the necessary – only accurate time. Each figure has self-contained power supply and independent control, it can be fixed to any surface autonomously. A light sensor will switch the clock to an invert mode: the figures are white in the dark time of day and black at daytime.

Made from 2mm punched steel sheet, brazed together and powder coated.

Based on a prototype for a plastic chair called Duck, this limited edition piece takes over a week to fabricate and finish.

The designer says "it takes some time to get all the holes to line up on the invisibly welded joins."

In this year's [Danish Exhibition SE] “FIFTY-FIFTY” (November 22, 2008 – January 4, 2009), Bentzen designed the furniture series “LIBRARY”. The name of the furniture series is derived from the functionality of the piece, and not by its appearance as the three furniture pieces look like wooden houses with a roof and windows made of steel. The windows are used for storage space of magazines, books and whatever else needs the shelter of a cozy house!
