Written by a librarian (the blog, I mean - not Chicks in Chainmail). Lots of sci fi and romance novels as you might expect, but other stuff as well. It made me chuckle.

Adolf Wölfli.

After being weirdly underwhelmed by the Martín Ramírez exhibit at the MAM, I was mesmerized/fascinated/blown away by this man's work. I could spend hours on this site.


At the beginning of the twentieth century, Adolf Wölfli, a former farmhand and laborer, produced a monumental, 25,000-page illustrated narrative in Waldau, a mental asylum near Bern, Switzerland. Through a complex web of texts, drawings, collages and musical compositions, Wölfli constructed a new history of his childhood and a glorious future with its own personal mythology. The French Surrealist André Breton described his work as "one of the three or four most important oeuveres of the twentieth century". Since 1975, our aim is to make Adolf Wölfli's work known through one-man and group exhibitions as well as publications.

Smart guerrilla advertising.

Entrepreneurs armed with little more than a URL and a pair of gloves are taking advantage of what would otherwise be an expensive media purchase. Chancers like playstickball.com are etching their messages into the disgusting layer of soot/scum/pollution that forms on the delivery vehicles that service our urban areas and thereby occupying some premium advertising real-estate. Who knows whether it's legal or not, but it's certainly an effective way of putting your product or service in front of millions of people without blowing your marketing budget!

Crow & Trash card game.

I can't help thinking that framing and hanging all of these cards, by Sapporo-based design unit Wabisabi, would make a kickass wall statement.

Just a quick sad sigh about SP's death over the weekend. In the pantheon of lovely, funny TV ladies, she was the tops. When I was in high school, I remember hearing that she designed the sheets for Bob & Emily's bed. I have no idea if it's true (I've verified that she was a linen designer for awhile), but, having no idea that such a thing existed, I was fascinated.

Bye, Emily. And thank heaven for DVDs.

Books and lighting. Two of my favoritest things.

This light-shade is purchased in the form of a bound book. The consumer then constructs the light using the perforated, recycled paper leaves and stickers provided. It comes complete with instructions and a fixing, which is die cut from card forming the back cover.
