Bagavond handbags.

My pal, Anna, had a fabulous bag with her when we went out last night after work. Turns out she bought it from our co-worker, Michelle, who has her very own gorgeous Etsy store. All modern designs made from vintage materials. So cool.

p.s. How embarrassed am I that I didn't know this about Michelle? So embarrassed.

Each Bagavond Bag is handcrafted from recycled materials, including leather, fur, and vintage scarves. As a result, each Bag is unique, as the exact mix of materials can never be duplicated. Each Bagavond Bag is meticulously constructed to be functional and fashionable and unite your individuality and ethics.

Steve the Chicken.

A 5-year-old girl shields her face for a moment from a gust of wind with her favorite chicken, Steve, after running to catch him for 10 minutes on her father's farm in Deary, Idaho. "One time I squished a chicken so hard that an egg fell out," she said.

I cannot tell you how happy I am that someone finally put this together.

I just added Spaghetti Cat, my new fave.

Alpha Coffee Table.

Not crazy about the colors, and I'm sure that, within a month, I'll be sick to death of seeing this -- but, right now, I REALLY love this concept.

(p.s. why did they shoot the product on that busy-ass carpet?)

This one-of-a-kind conversation table was inspired by a Paris flea market find, then designed exclusively for us by a London graphic designer with a penchant for, and a large personal collection of, antique printers' blocks.

Ringo holographic interface.

I don't know that I'd want to be emailing and texting on the sidewalk, but playing games and using it as a navigator could be really cool.

China's "new terracotta soldiers."

The New Golden Brick installation features portraits of migrant workers as the new terracotta soldiers. The building blocks are the humble support of a country in perpetual change. Unlike those used in ancient buildings, their lives are ephemeral as they are infinitely reproduced and replaced. Each of the migrant construction workers wears the mandatory plastic helmet, each of them is smiling, even if they are often (and rightly so) described in the press as the victims of China's urbanization frenzy.

Etsy :: SecondLineFrames ::

Picture frames made from wood found in post-Katrina New Orleans. Expensive, but gorgeous. (I wish they said exactly what percentage they donate back to the neighborhoods. I would hope quite a bit for the amount of money they're charging.)

Subway Crush.

This made me laugh. It's taking "Missed Connections" to a whole new level. And it has the best "About Us" section I've ever seen on a web site. It simply says:

PIG 05049.

Christien Meindertsma has spent the last three years researching all the products made from a single pig. Amongst some of the more unexpected results were: Ammunition, medicine, photo paper, heart valves, brakes, chewing gum, porcelain, cosmetics, cigarettes, conditioner and even bio diesel.

Meindertsma makes the subject more approachable by reducing everything to the scale of one animal. After it's death, Pig number 05049 was shipped in parts throughout the world. Some products remain close to their original form and function while others diverge dramatically. In an almost surgical way a pig is dissected in the pages of the book - resulting in a startling photo book where all the products are shown at their true scale (1:1).

Nicely done, Benetton.

I just think this is a beautiful ad.

The ad is a companion piece to the latest edition of Benetton's Colors magazine.

30 Pictures Of the Sichuan Earthquake, 30 Tibetan Prayers, One Shared Hope

It is not a conventional magazine, but rather a collection of prayers inspired by the design and meaning of traditional Tibetan flags. The Colors editorial team collected 30 photographs of the Sichuan earthquake and met 30 Tibetan monks around the world. Each monk composed a prayer inspired by one of these photos.
