Tray Design Concept.

I'm not entirely sure I understand how this works, but it's really lovely. And I heart that the design hearkens back to an old school desk.

The simple personal computer contains a wireless keyboard, flash memory and a touchpad. A slot in the base allows for multiple screens and devices to be connected and synced together in an easy, understandable way. The base will have magnets embedded so that the wireless screen can be held tightly during transport. It also means that each screen can align itself neatly with any other devices connected. The designers say that their use of wood for the bases material "is a means of recognising out society's preference to use natural renewable resources when possible." Let's hope FUJITSU, or anyone else, make this!

USB Film Roll.

Want to back up your photos? These little guys are upcycled, 4GB and only $20. Sweet.

These upcycled jewels hold 4GB of information: that’s up to 1000 photos!

Since we get these from film labs that were just going to throw them away, you never know what kind of canister you’ll end up with. It’s like a grab bag: will you get Fuji Velvia? Tri-X? Precious but elusive Kodachrome? Who knows, you’ll just have to wait and see!

Smith Corona Portable USB Typewriter.

This is a Smith Corona Portable typewriter that has been modified with custom electronics to work as a standard USB keyboard.

The typewriter itself is in good condition, all keys work smoothly although there is one stuck key (the @ key). Also, the key registration is off (lines of text don't appear crooked on the page.) The ink is fresh and it does work as a regular typewriter in addition to being a USB keyboard.

Bookbook.

I absolutely love this.

BookBook is a one-of-a-kind, hardback leather case designed exclusively for MacBook and MacBook Pro. Available in Classic Black or Vibrant Red, BookBook brings three levels of security to your prized Mac. First, the hardback cover and spine provide solid protection from the rigors of the road. Second, the vintage book design disguises MacBook for superior security. And third, the stylish case protects you from being like everyone else because BookBook is totally original, just like you.

Remaking Radiohead With Dot Matrix Printers.

Sadly, I'm burnt out on Radiohead, but, coo. This is lovely.

Video artist James Houston used hard drives and dot matrix printers to play a song by Radiohead. Houston, of Glasgow, Scotland, found that old personal computers could provide a wonderful range of bleeps. He added the sliding whirs of image scanners to the mix of clicks and tones. The less musical the old technology sounded, the more sympathetic the effect — as though the machines were straining for a beauty beyond their humble states.

Houston says the sounds were there for the harvesting. He just had to keep tinkering with the machinery. "It was a matter of prodding and poking to try to get good music out of it," he says.

Happy birthday, computer.

Sixty years ago the "modern computer" was born in a lab in Manchester.

The Small Scale Experimental Machine, or "Baby", was the first to contain memory which could store a program.

The room-sized computer's ability to carry out different tasks - without having to be rebuilt - has led some to describe it as the "first modern PC".

Using just 128 bytes of memory, it successfully ran its first set of instructions - to determine the highest factor of a number - on 21 June 1948.

Clock + type = cool screensaver.

Love it.

Word Clock is a typographic screensaver for Mac OS X. It displays a fixed list of all numbers and words sufficient to express any possible date and time as a sentence. Word Clock displays time by highlighting appropriate words as each second passes.

Apple Timeline tee.

It's easy to forget that Apple is 30 years old. Lets take a minute to remember the 20th Anniversary Mac. With a 250 mhz processor and a 12 inch screen, this was a steal at $7,499. We've come a long way.
