BoGo Light - Help Light the World.

I think I have to order one of these solar flashlights.

The BoGo Light is a scientific, eco-friendly breakthrough that is making an impact worldwide. From Cairo to Cape Town, from the Caribbean to the Amazon, it is improving the lives of individuals, families, and entire villages by replacing costly kerosene, candles, and disposable battery flashlights with an affordable, long lasting, solar flashlight.

BoGo means Buy one, Give one. We want our lights to benefit the less fortunate; therefore, with each light purchased in the developed world, a second identical light will be donated to an organization that will distribute it in the developing world with our direct financial support.

London Underground Signs.

I wantwantwant.

These are extremely rare. They were used by London Underground until about 30 years ago whenever a standard sign was obscured (during maintenance or whatever) and a temporary replacement needed. Like the Routemaster blinds they have lovely, simple graphics and real integrity and history. Beautifully framed and mounted by our local, excellent, framer.

Just to be clear - this is not anti-pug.

It just made me laugh.

McSweeney's Quiz: Zen Parable or Just Someone Being Cruel?

The student Tokusan used to go to Master Ryutan in the evenings to talk and to listen. One night, it was very late before he was finished asking questions.

"Why don't you go to bed?" asked Ryutan.

Tokusan bowed, and lifted the screen to go out. "The hall is very dark," he said.

"Here, take this candle," said Ryutan, lighting one.

Tokusan took the candle.

Ryutan leaned forward, and blew it out.

Quite an alternative to a log cabin.

The Ring House, outside of Tokyo. Stunning.

Takei-Nabeshima-Architects (TNA) architects have designed a striking mini-tower on spec for a planned community in the town of Karuizawa, some 185 miles northwest of the Japanese capital. The Ring House is wrapped in rings of glass and wood and has an uninterrupted 360-degree view of the forest.

Pileus: The Internet Umbrella

Pileus is an umbrella connected to the Internet to make walking in rainy days fun. Pileus has a large screen on the top surface, a built-in camera, a motion sensor, GPS, and a digital compass, and it provides two main functions; A Social Photo-sharing and A 3D Map Navigation.

The photo function is connected to a major web service "Flickr". A user can take photo with a camera on the umbrella, and pictures are uploaded to Flickr in two minutes with context tags via a wireless Internet connection. Users can also enjoy themselves watching photo-streams downloaded from Flickr ...with simple operation of wrist snapping.

Pop-out pendant.

My pal, Molly, was sporting one of these the other night. I couldn't take my eyes off it. Beautiful. Nice find, Ms. Molly.

Leafy pillow goodness.

To be honest, I will never spend $70 on a throw pillow. But this one made it awfully tempting.

I love the unusual shape of this.

Morbid curiosity.

These strange hybrid animals are kind of fascinating. However, I'll warn you - if you're squeamish, don't dig too far into the site.

None of the animals used in Sarina’s work were killed for the purpose of using them in her art. All animal components are recycled. She utilizes salvaged roadkill and discarded livestock, as well as the many animals that are donated to her. Donated animals are often casualties of the pet trade, destroyed nuisance animals and pests, or animals that died of natural causes. A very strict 'waste not, want not' policy is adhered to in her studio - virtually every part of the animal is recycled in some manner.

Streaming Wilco.

Their new CD drops today, and their web site is streaming the entire CD. I'm not a huge fan of Wilco, but I think it's great that they're allowing people to listen to the whole CD before buying. In fact, I'm listening right now. It's pretty dang good.

It's amazing what you can do with an Exacto knife, some old paperbacks and a camera. Very fun.
