Are you staying in a hotel room that's right next to the elevator? Want to sleep in when your host's kids are up and at 'em early in the morning? White noise apps and earbuds are the only solution. I'm hoping Noisli background noise generator becomes a mobile app soon (it's only available on desktop at the moment) because it's not a typical white noise generator. While it offers simple white (or brown or pink) noise, you can also mix multiple sounds to create a custom background to mask unwanted noise and help you relax.
(My favorite at the moment is the sound of night/cafe/rain. In arctic Wisconsin – currently 7°F with a nasty wind chill factor – the sound of an outdoor cafe on a rainy summer night is sheer bliss.)
