I'm talking to you. Yes, you.

Lovely readers -- Have you been to Baltimore? Do you live in Baltimore? If so, could you step over here for just a sec?

The monk and I are heading out to Baltimore this weekend, and I'm looking for some fab, interesting and/or design-y sorta places to go. I'd be ever-so-grateful for some suggestions.

p.s. We're taking a day trip into D.C. as well, so any suggestions about D.C. would be ace, too.

I live in dc! check out the nat'l building museum, the national portrait gallery ( surrounded by some pretty amazing restaurants, try Zatinya or Zola ). Walk along connecticut avenue in dupont circle for some cool stores ( such as tabletop, further up near the hilton a cool japanese home store ). Walk around Georgetown in nice weather for some beautiful houses and hidden antique stores. Up wisconsin about 6 blocks from M street is where the cool antique stores start. Cady's Alley in Georgetown ( 32 & M ) is where all the design stores are along M and on the alley behind.

Yeah B-more!
Amidst the trashy bits, B-more has lots of great treasures. Maryland Art Source is a great resource to find galleries and such. http://www.marylandartsource.org/resources.html

There is lots of design fun to be had in Mt. Vernon. http://www.mvcd.org/

Have fun!!

I live just outside DC. I second the Georgetown suggestion with Cady's Alley being a primary focus; specifically Ann Sacks & Waterworks for a visual treat even if you are not shopping for tile. Also, try Paper source (paper-source.com) for some fun and Martson Luce on Wisconsin Ave. The DC design center used to be good, but I have not been there in years. Used to love Country Swedish, Niermann Weeks, Baker, Knapp & Tubbs and Holly Hunt showrooms. Don't know from what city you are coming, and or if you have access to a merchandise mart near you. (merchandisemart.com/dcdesigncenter)The Spring design house is now open to for view. check out the web site. Too bad the Cherry blossoms are past peak. Enjoy the visit! Molly

ooh i am jealous. (I'm going in early may). since my sister now lives there in lovely Bolton Hill, I'm starting to get to know B'more. I highly recommend the American Visionary Art Museum in Federal Hill - It's one of my favourite museums in all the world. http://www.avam.org/

A few publications:

Definitely walk around Hampden (mostly along W 36th St).

Café Hon is kitschy.

I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to get here during a very short visit to B'more, but if you're nearby, it's a nice little shopping centre:
