Sorry I've fallen down on my blogging again, folks. I do have a good reason. I'm in Florida, getting to know the BFF's brand new little munchkin. Though I've no desire for one of my own, I'm a huuuge fan of my new little nephew. So, so fab. I mean, c'mon... how can you resist this?

Library nostalgia.
I gave a happy sigh when I saw these. So many hours at the library, pouring over the NYT Arts section...
(I'm a little annoyed that Alessi -- not one of my fave product design firms -- is taking credit for it.)

'please make use of the mistletoe'
Love this photo by my buddy, Martina. Seemed like an appropriate image to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and happy holidays, whereever you are in this big wide world. I'm taking a blogging break to go have myself a holiday.
Thanks, everybody! Stop back in a few days. I'll get my blogging butt in gear and try to find you some year-end fabulousness.
peace,
bb
(Thanks, Martini. Sending you lots of love from Milwaukee...)
Not available in the U.S.
...but beautiful. Many, many lovely designs. Hope they branch out for us Yanks.

More excellent cups (and other stuff as well).
Best of all, they're limited editions and sold by the artist. (Well, I must admit - in my line of work, any kitchenware with a pulldown menu is cool.)

Good morning, robot.
How much do I love this? SO much. I am their target demographic.
Seeing that little waving robot every time you take a sip of your morning coffee could make even the most grumpy non-morning person smile.

Onion message pad.
Not particularly useful (I would think the end notes might be pretty tiny), but a nice little twist on sticky notes.

Never pay retail.
If I've learned one thing this holiday season it's to never order ANYthing online without looking for discount coupon codes first. This is one of the sites I've been using. (There are a million out there.) Thought I'd share.

Another thing I can't buy because I have cats.
Really lovely. They would last about 5 minutes on my curly willow branches. [Sigh]

Custom lithophane night lights.
Strange and kind of cheesy, but I think these are kind of a cool idea. Send in your photo, get a custom carved night light. I can imagine this being a comforting little accent in a kid's room.
The main piece is the carved piece, based on the photograph - We start with a piece of an extremely durable material with somewhat of a marble feel to it. The piece is then carved, based on the photograph you send us (the original photograph isn't damaged). Due to its translucent nature, holding the piece to the light will create an illusion of a Photo. The carving process itself, for each Light Affection piece, takes a few hours.

Artists' series breath strips.
This is so very odd.

...leading artists, such as jenny holzer, yoko ono, maurizio cattelan, and bruce weber, as well as other accomplished cultural figures, like chef ferran adria and rock star elton john, team with the professional flavorists of the international flavors & fragrances (IFF) company to break new ground in the exploration of taste. the reader can join in to directly experience 12 original flavors produced exclusively for visionaire in the form of fast-dissolving breath-strips in individually marked, custom-designed cases that correspond to images printed in an accompanying hardcover book.

Schadenfreude flip books.
Very funny. How can you resist a series with a name like this?
SCHADENFREUDE is a series of flip books that encourages you to take an active part in the downfall of others. you hold their destiny in your hands.
juliane otterbach created these by tracing real life video footage of various accidents and thoughtfully putting it into a flip book for me and you to enjoy.

Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum
I have no idea how I wound up here. But it's...well... I couldn't look away.
Glistening chandeliers, mirrored cases and varnished mahogany mixed with coquina and granite awaits the visitor of the Burt Reynolds and Friends Museum. Garnet red walls filled with Hollywood's greatest celebrities evoke memories of your favorite movies and television shows.

I dub thee "Swiss Cheese Building."
I do like it, though.
A new high rise is going up in Miami’s design district, and its a lean, green, eco machine. A collaboration between Chad Oppenheim architecture design, energy consultant Buro Happold, and structural engineer Ysreal Seinuk, the $40 million, 25-story, “COR” building will incorporate mixed-use residential and commercial space, integrating green technologies including wind turbines, photovoltaic panels, and solar hot water generation. The building’s exoskeleton is a hyper-efficient structure that provides thermal mass for insulation, shade for residents, and architectural elements such as terraces and armatures that support turbines.

Even if you don't want to watch the film (which is damn funny), you should visit the site for the music player in the upper right corner. At the moment, it's playing a Richard Thompson cover of Britney Spear's "Oops, I Did It Again." Sweet. I'm leaving this on for awhile.

Falling garden.

I don't really understand the copy, but I get the gist.
The Doge (Mocenigo) needed a church so as to be able to have a monumental tomb built for himself, the church (San Staƫ) needed a saint so as to be able to be built, the saint (San Eustachio) needed a miracle so as to be pronounced a saint, the miracle needed a stag in order to be seen, and we built the garden for the reindeer.
The visitors lie on the bed above the doge’s gravestone, and the garden thinks for them.
