German Bacon Paper (1970s)

This made me giggle. So much love put into a pork-wrapping product.

A perfect wrapping paper for your piggy themed gifts, or just for a bacon sandwich in your lunchbox. This is vintage german packaging paper for lard and pork products. Great pig and a nice bit of type. 27cm wide and 100cm long.

google sheep view

Just what it says on the tin - an artist and an archivist are teaming up to find all the sheep on Google Street View. So random it made me laugh.

Kudos to One Green Planet for good UX.

Is it really necessary for advertisers to take users hostage before allowing a user to get to content? No. One Green Planet has a lovely solution - their ads slide in from the lower right corner and play there, bringing attention to the ad while allowing users to see the content they want to see.

Papier-mâché silver deer head.

One of these days, I really need to get myself a big fake deer head. This would definitely do the trick.

Handmade in Haiti. As part of our collaboration with Port-au-Prince workshop Caribbean Craft, we worked with artisans in Haiti to create this silver-finish stag. Made from recycled materials, it brings a wild side to walls in the most responsible way.

A Kind of You (2013) / Perttu Saksa

Beautifully shot. So creepy and beyond heartbreaking. Thank god this is a dying, and now legally punishable practice.

From an interview with the photographer:

There has been a tradition in Indonesia of street performers teaching their pet monkeys tricks and dressing them in traditional masks. This custom has subsequently put down roots in the cities, where stressed-out monkeys, harnessed to help beggars, are dragged in chains from one owner to another. The monkeys walk clumsily, but are made to go through the streets ‘disguised’ in heads cut off Barbies and baby dolls. A couple of years ago, the Indonesian state tightened up the law and made macaque monkey species protected. There were no longer performances in the street, like before. I did a lot of groundwork with the aid of a local journalist before we found a few people known as “monkey masters” in the slums of Jakarta. They trained and rented out monkeys to beggars. I photographed the series over a few weeks in the autumn of 2012. Since the beginning of this year, the legislation has been made even stricter, and owning monkeys is now punishable by a prison sentence.

Angry Bear.

I don't know why, but I'm completely in love with this illustration. It must speak to my inner angry bear.

Klaus Pichler: Skeletons in the closet

Klaus Pichler spent three years roaming around behind the scenes and under the plastic of the Museum of Natural History, taking photos. In November 2012, the museum is hosting an exhibition of the photographs. Brilliant.

Knit a Sweater, Help a Penguin in Need.

AAAUGH. How cute is this?? If I could knit, I'd be making a penguin sweater tonight.

A recent oil spill on New Zealand’s coast has left the environment and wildlife in shambles — including the local blue penguin population. While volunteers are working hard to rescue and clean the animals in the region, they require a little bit of crafty help: tiny sweaters, or penguin pajamas, for the rescued birds. These woolen sweaters keep oil-soaked birds warm until they’re well enough to be cleaned and prevent them from ingesting oil from their feathers.
