Is an autograph a true autograph if the author isn't there?

I can't decide if this is incredibly lame or incredibly cool.

Author Margaret Atwood has invented a remote-controlled pen which allows her to sign books for her fans from thousands of miles away.

Invention? I doubt it. Senators and congressmen have used the "magic" pen for years to sign their official photos and letters to constituents. Somewhere in my attic I have a photo from Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa addressed to "My pal, Adolf." Anyway, Atwood added a remote control. So what . . .
