Real Fake Art: A Gallery of China’s Copy Artists

In his series Real Fake Art, photographer Michael Wolf took portraits of professional artisans next to the Lichtensteins, the Van Goghs and the many disproportionately giant Mona Lisas mass produced in this fascinating, multimillion industry, timeless classics and contemporary art blockbusters alike.

China's "new terracotta soldiers."

The New Golden Brick installation features portraits of migrant workers as the new terracotta soldiers. The building blocks are the humble support of a country in perpetual change. Unlike those used in ancient buildings, their lives are ephemeral as they are infinitely reproduced and replaced. Each of the migrant construction workers wears the mandatory plastic helmet, each of them is smiling, even if they are often (and rightly so) described in the press as the victims of China's urbanization frenzy.

Hugo Tillman | Film Stills of the Mind

British-born Hugo Tillman spent two years in China, interviewing leading artists. The conversations ranged around their philosophies, fantasies, and their childhoods. From those conversations, Tillman constructed a full-sized set, a sort of 3-D map of the inner psyche. Then he invited the artists to perform a scene within that set. And then he shot his images. An unexpected, fascinating idea, no?

Montgomery Ward still exists?

I had no idea until I stumbled across it. This Asian wall mural is kind of intriguing for the price.

This Oriental Garden mural features a painterly, stylized Asian scene that includes trees with song birds, rhododendron bushes in full bloom, pagoda, and Chinese Chippendale details. Product is pre-pasted, strippable and scrubbable. Available in 2 sizes. The small version comes in 7 panels and the large version comes in 10 panels.

Are you ready for the Chinese New Year?

Since my mom's birthday is February 18, the Chinese New Year, I may have to bring her some of these. Long noodles represent a long life.
