Okay - this is not my usual post. Just passing along a great deal – the Mattel store is having a sale on toys for boys (flinch) - 20% off + free shipping + another 10% off if you sign up for their newsletter.
I've had my eye on this for my great-nephew for awhile and finally popped for it today – too good a deal to pass up.
Artist Patrick Jacobs creates small dioramas embedded in gallery walls, encased in magnifying lenses with a diameter as small as three inches. The effect is uncanny, focusing the viewers attention on the absolute tiniest of spaces containing lush green fields, cramped apartment paces, and clumps of small mushrooms. The pieces can take several weeks to complete, though one installation has consumed his spare time for over two years. Jacobs was born in California in 1971, attended the Art Institute of Chicago and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. If you want to learn more head over to Charles and Ford to read a fantastic interview including some great imagery.
Klaus Pichler spent three years roaming around behind the scenes and under the plastic of the Museum of Natural History, taking photos. In November 2012, the museum is hosting an exhibition of the photographs. Brilliant.
Do you (like I do) have a closet full of prints and artwork that've been there for ages because you can't bite the spendy bullet to get it framed?
You might want to check out DIY Picture Framing – they have good ol' glass clip frames on the cheap. I finally got around to framing a few 18x24 prints that I've had for ages (like the Public School print, above, and this Skinny Ships print). Two frames = $36 with shipping.
I know it's unnecessary, but it's just so damned cute, I want one.

I have no idea how this sounds, but I want one because it is tiny and adorable and it has a radio in it.
Made of wood and 100% handicraft products, this Tiny Acorn speaker produces rich sound. Includes a USB connector for charging and a standard jack to connect to audio sources.
Hand carved and crafted from off cuts, this red walnut base lamp features a large Edison light bulb, a silver toggle switch and a cotton power cord. As simple as it gets. Dimensions: 3" x 6" x 2"
Not that I have any desire to think about Christmas or snow yet – these are just pretty adorkable.
This bone china snowman has real twigs as arms. It can sit as a table decoration amongst other festive foliage or hung on a tree as a bauble. All individually different with its own twiggy character.

Ever since I saw my first Jacques Tati film poster hanging in a D.C. restaurant years ago, I've been completely in love with almost every one I've seen. So, this little collection of JT posters makes me all giddy. Enjoy.
